The Transient Growth of Ammonium Chloride Dendrites

چکیده

We report measurements of the initial growth and subsequent transient response of dendritic crystals of ammonium chloride grown from supersaturated aqueous solution. Starting from a small, nearly spherical seed held in unstable equilibrium, we lower the temperature to initiate growth. The growth speed and tip radius approach the same steady state values independent of initial seed size. We then explore the response of the growing dendrite to changes in temperature. The crystal adjusts quickly and smoothly to the new growth conditions, maintaining an approximately constant value of vρ throughout. Dissolving dendrites, on the other hand, are not characterized by the same value of vρ.

Shape of ammonium chloride dendrite tips at small supersaturation

We report detailed shape measurements of the tips of three-dimensional NH4Cl dendrites grown from supersaturated aqueous solution. For growth at small supersaturation, we compare two models for the tip shape: parabolic with a fourth-order correction and a power law. Neither is ideal, but the fourth-order fit appears to provide the most robust description of both the tip shape and position for t...

One-Factor-at-a-Time Optimization of Polyhydroxybutyrate Production and Growth of Alcaligenes eutrophus by Altering Culture Parameters and Incubation Time

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are bioplastics derived from renewable resources such as vegetable oils, corn starch, or microbes. The polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a short-chain-length PHA, and the most important bioplastic produced by certain microorganisms in the presence of excess carbon sources. In this study batch cultivation of Alcaligenes eutrophus with the aim of increasing PHB production ...

Ammonium chloride catalyzed microwave-assisted synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans

In the present work, we have developed a mild, efficient, and environmentally benign method for the synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives via a three-component cyclocondensation of aldehydes, malononitrile and dimedone utilizing ammonium chloride as a simple, easily available and cost effective catalyst under microwave irradiation. This method has several attracting features such as ...

Response of cereals to cycocel application (Review article)

ABSTRACT- Growth retardants are natural or synthetic chemical substances which are directly applied to crops to alter some structural processes. It is expected that these alterations modify hormonal balance and growth leading to increased yield, improved crop quality or facilitated harvesting. Cycocel (CCC) or chlormequat chloride (2-chloro ethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride) as a synthetic grow...
